In Waterhall, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the funeral plans following the death of a loved one.
We have a range of choices, from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no fuss’ choices that will hopefully meet your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ Funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial’ options differ from the traditional funeral option in a significant way. These simple alternatives give you the option of having a memorial or special ceremony at a later time.
Not only is direct cremation simple, but it is also be private and financially beneficial. It’s more affordable to a lot of people. We still maintain the highest of standards, we still ensure that dignity for your loved one is upheld, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company’s philosophy is as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Throughout this time our we will be there for you to help you, while maintaining dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service that includes us taking your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation then happens on that day, and the cremation remains usually ready for collection on the next working day.
Such a simple goodbye is appropriate for those who have opted to be cremated without a service, by their own preference and either recorded in a will or dying wishes, or they may have orally expressed it to their loved ones, maybe after, for example, donation of their body organs.
It may be that for financial reasons a direct cremation is better suited, either the person who has died didn’t prepare financially for their own demise or indeed the person left to arrange is not in a position to be able to pay for a traditional service. It may be that the deceased person didn’t have any family or friends having outlived them, or able to attend due to distance and, in that case, it seems inappropriate to have a traditional service, when a direct cremation might seem more fitting.
From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:
Yes, our ‘Direct Burial’ is also regarded to as the ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, the dead is taken to a graveyard and buried, without a service, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial choice price begins at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option covers the following:
For all parties, the idea of immediate cremation or burial was for little to No Fuss, with a view to reducing issues and in particular bringing costs down to a minimum. We find that very few people even like to see the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 would wish to come to see their loved one.
In this case, for an additional charge, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive treatments unless we are required to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Going back to the idea of little or no hassle on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping it to a minimum, including expenses, we generally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or alternatively they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the garden of remembrance at the crematorium.
There is the choice that the ashes can be shipped to your door at an extra cost. When it comes to urns, there are many options available. We generally tell clients to look on the internet for urns given the wide range of choices available, and we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, based on individual tastes, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all of this from the comfort of your own home in your time.
Just call us on phone.
Normally, we can do that all over the phone, backed up by email – we can do a video conference with you, and if appropriate, we might consider meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t afford this for everybody, but if you have problems getting out and about your house, we will consider it. But you can call us on phone to talk about your requirements first.
Our compassionate and ethical approach to arranging a funeral or cremation is upheld personally by our funeral director, Philip, and his Wife Sallie, who both hope to help you in your time of need with a package that suits your wishes, completely. Sussex Funeral Services are very proud to offer transparent pricing to uphold our ethical and moral codes of conduct. It is our belief that this transparency is incredibly necessary, providing a distinct alternative to any of the other funeral firms. Sussex Funeral Services are one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who want you to be aware of all our funeral service options in the name of decency and clarity.

“A very dear family friend of ours passed away on the 21st of February in Hove. As we live in the north of England, we went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove.
Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick. The price difference reflects the fact that those collected from a private home or nursing home resting in our premises for a period of time (sometimes up to a week or more ) until they are taken to the crematorium, whereas those from hospitals and coroners are usually only with us for a few days.
