In Topleigh, Sussex Funeral Services can help you with necessary funeral arrangements when it comes to the loss of a loved one.
We have a variety of options from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options that will hopefully fit your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ option and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial are totally different from the conventional funeral method. These simple options allow you to hold a memorial or special ceremony later on.
Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. It’s more affordable for many people. We take our high standards very seriously; we also guarantee that your beloved’s dignity is upheld and we carry ourselves in the most respectful way. Our company ethos is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. The direct cremation means a simple service that involves us collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day of their cremation. On that day, we simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, normally Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation then takes place on that day with the cremated remains usually being ready for you to collect by the next working day.
This simple farewell is appropriate for those who want, of their own choice and either are recorded in a will or dying wishes, to be cremated without a service, or have verbally passed it on to their loved ones, perhaps after donating their body organ for example.
It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. It could be that the deceased had no relatives or friends who had survived them or be able to attend due to distance and, in this situation, a conventional service may be unsuitable if a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:
Yes, our ‘Direct Burial’ is also regarded to as the ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, the dead is taken to a graveyard and buried, without a service, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
For all parties, the idea of immediate cremation or burial was for little to No Fuss, with a view to reducing issues and in particular bringing costs down to a minimum. We notice that very few people even like to view. Possibly only 1 in 10 would like to see their loved one.
In that situation, we can provide personal care for your loved one for an extra fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothing or in sheets of calico cotton (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive procedures, unless we are requested to do so by law or formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no hassle for both sides, and again, in order to keep things to a minimum, including prices, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium on their own. Or alternatively they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the garden of remembrance at the crematorium.
There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. There are a number of options available when it comes to urns. We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of available urns, and we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, given individual tastes, and since there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your own convenience from the comfort of your home.
Simply ring us.
We can usually do it all over the phone, followed by email – we can video conferencing with you and we will consider visiting you personally, in your own house, if necessary. We can’t do this for everyone but we can consider it if you have difficulties getting out and about your own home. But you can get started by calling to talk about your requirements.
Our caring and responsible approach to the organisation of funerals or cremations is handled directly by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, who all aim to support you in your time of need with a package that fits your wishes. Sussex Funeral Services are very proud to offer transparent pricing to uphold our ethical and moral codes of conduct. We believe this openness is extremely important, offering a distinct alternative to some of the other funeral companies. Sussex Funeral Services are one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who want you to be aware of all our funeral service options in the name of decency and clarity.
Our direct burial and cremation funeral services are easy and dignified, offering you and your family a more fitting and inexpensive alternative. Knowing how a losing a loved one can be tremendous upheaval, we are committed to giving you the funeral that fits your condition best. Our staff are experienced, caring and understanding of how difficult planning a funeral can be for a family or person. Comments from our clients are of tremendous value to us.
We would like some to share with you.
“Our very close family member died in Hove on 21 February. We went to the website to find a respectable funeral director in Hove, as we reside in the north of England.
We chose Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip . By the time we landed in Hove, all the burial arrangements had been carried out to our satisfaction, and all other help we wanted was catered for to a very high level. On a really sad day you supported us, allowing us the chance to recognise and support a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and dignity. — K. Sherlock.

|hospital or coroners||£799 plus disbursements|
|home or nursing home etc||£999 plus disbursements|
The price difference reflects the fact that those collected from a private home or nursing home resting in our premises for a period of time (sometimes up to a week or more ) until they are taken to the crematorium, whereas those from hospitals and coroners are usually only with us for a few days.
