Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the appropriate funeral arrangements in Poundford, when it comes to the death of a loved one.
We have a variety of options ranging from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options, that hopefully will suit your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ option and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial are totally different from the conventional funeral method. These simple options allow you to hold a memorial or special ceremony later on.
Not only is a direct cremation a simple occasion but it can also be private and worry-free in terms of finance. It’s more affordable for many people. We still maintain the highest of standards, we still ensure that dignity for your loved one is upheld, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. The ethos of our company is described as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice.’
The choice of ‘direct cremation’ will benefit those who may be worrying about affordability or want a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Throughout , our sensitive staff will support you while upholding dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service that includes us taking your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation then takes place on that day with the cremated remains usually being ready for you to collect by the next working day.
Such a simple goodbye is appropriate for those who have opted to be cremated without a service, by their own preference and either recorded in a will or dying wishes, or they may have orally expressed it to their loved ones, maybe after, for example, donation of their body organs.
This may be that, for financial reasons, direct cremation is the best option, because the person who died did not prepare financially for his own death or, perhaps, the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for the regular service. The deceased person may have had no relatives or friends who have survived them, or be able to attend due to distance and in this case, it seems inappropriate to provide a conventional service when a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
From £799 including disbursements (Cremation Fee plus Doctor Fee where applicable) – this selection includes the following:
Sure, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ is also called the Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
The principle of direct cremation or burial is for little to no hassle to all parties, with a view to keeping issues to a minimum and, in particular, to keeping costs to a minimum. We found out that not many people would really want to view the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 may wish to come and see their loved one.
In this case, for an additional charge, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive treatments unless we are required to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Getting back to the idea of little or No Fuss for both parties, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we usually ask for clients to collect the ashes themselves from the crematorium. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden.
There is the choice that the ashes can be shipped to your door at an extra cost. There are a variety of options open when it comes to urns. We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.
Just call us on phone.
Usually, we would do that all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conference with you, and if necessary, we might discuss meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t afford this for everybody, but if you have problems getting out and about your house, we will consider it. But start by calling us to discuss your requirements.

We’d like to share a few with you.
“Our dear family friend died in Hove on the 21st of February. As we live in the north of England, we went online to look for a credible funeral director in Hove.
Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick. By the time we arrived in Hove, all the funeral arrangements had been made to our satisfaction, and any other assistance that we needed was catered to a very high standard. On a really sad day you supported us, allowing us the chance to recognise and support a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and dignity. — K. Sherlock.

|home or nursing home etc||£999 plus disbursements|
The price difference reflects the fact that those collected from a private home or nursing home resting in our premises for a period of time (sometimes up to a week or more ) until they are taken to the crematorium, whereas those from hospitals and coroners are usually only with us for a few days.
