In Old-Shoreham, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the funeral plans following the death of a loved one.
We have a range of choices, ranging from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no frills’ choices that will hopefully be right for you.
Our ‘No Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or burial’ options are radically different from the conventional funeral method. These simple alternatives give you the option of having a memorial or special ceremony at a later time.
Not only is direct cremation simple, but it is also be private and financially beneficial. It’s more affordable for many people. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. The ethos of our company is described as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice.’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves gathering your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until cremation. On the day, in a suitable coffin, we will simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, usually the Woodvale Crematorium in Brighton. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the cremated ashes usually ready for you to collect on the next day.
Such a simple goodbye is appropriate for those who have opted to be cremated without a service, by their own preference and either recorded in a will or dying wishes, or they may have orally expressed it to their loved ones, maybe after, for example, donation of their body organs.
This may be that, for financial reasons, direct cremation is the best option, because the person who died did not prepare financially for his own death or, perhaps, the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for the regular service. It may be that the deceased person did not have any relatives or friends who outlived them , or be able to attend due to distance in this case, it will be inappropriate to provide a conventional service when direct cremation would seem more fitting.
From £799 including disbursements (Cremation Fee plus Doctor Fee where applicable) – this selection includes the following:
Sure, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ is also called the Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.
Burial selection starts from Price £1,000 including disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:
The idea of the direct cremation or burial was for little or No Fuss for both parties, with a view to keeping things to a minimum and in particular to keep costs to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.
In this case, we can provide personal care of your loved one for an additional fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we tend not to preserve by embalming or use unnecessarily intrusive therapies unless we are required by law or formal request).
Getting back to the idea of little or No Fuss for both parties, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we usually ask for clients to collect the ashes themselves from the crematorium. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden.
There is a chance that the ashes will be shipped to your door at a further cost. There are a number of options available when it comes to urns. We typically suggest to clients to search for urns on the Internet as there are usually lots of choices to choose from, and with our own particular tastes, we find that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all this in your time from the comfort of your own home.
Simply ring us.
We would usually do it all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conferencing with you and, if required, we will consider visiting you at home. We can’t do this for everybody, but we do so if you’re having trouble getting out and leaving your home. But you can first get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
Our caring and ethical method of planning a funeral or cremation is personally maintained by our funeral director, Philip, and his Wife Sallie, both of whom aim to provide you with a package that suits your needs completely. Sussex Funeral Services are very proud to offer transparent pricing to uphold our ethical and moral codes of conduct. It is our belief that this transparency is incredibly necessary, providing a distinct alternative to any of the other funeral firms. Sussex Funeral Services is one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who want you to be informed in the name of decency and transparency, of all of our funeral service offerings.
Our direct funeral options in burial and cremation are simple and dignified, giving you and your family a more appropriate and affordable option. Knowing how tremendous upheaval a losing loved one can be, we are devoted to giving you the right funeral for your circumstance. Our team are seasoned, compassionate and know how tough it can be for a family or person to plan a funeral. Our attention is on honesty and integrity, and those suffering bereavements are all too often unaware of affordable and dignified direct funeral services that exist to help mitigate budgetary costs throughout this complicated and emotionally stressful period.
Comments from our clients are of tremendous value to us.
We’d like to share some with you.
“Our very beloved family friend passed away in Hove on February 21. We went on the website to look for a respectable funeral director in Hove since we reside in the north of England.
Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick. By the time we landed in Hove, all the burial arrangements had been carried out to our satisfaction, and all other help we wanted was catered for to a very high level. You supported us on a really sad day, allowing us the chance to recognise and appreciate a loved one, you handled our mother with such respect and dignity. – K. Sherlock.

|hospital or coroners||£799 plus disbursements|
|home or nursing home etc||£999 plus disbursements|
The price difference reflects the fact that those collected from a private home or nursing home resting in our premises for a period of time (sometimes up to a week or more ) until they are taken to the crematorium, whereas those from hospitals and coroners are usually only with us for a few days.
