Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the appropriate funeral arrangements in Lambs-Green, when it comes to the death of a loved one.
We have a range of choices, ranging from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no frills’ choices that will hopefully be right for you.
Our plans for ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or ‘ Burial’ vary greatly from conventional funeral choices. These simple options allow you to hold a memorial or special ceremony later on.
Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. It’s more affordable to a lot of people. We still maintain the highest of standards, we still ensure that dignity for your loved one is upheld, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company philosophy is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option will be more favourable to those who worry about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Our compassionate staff will always support you with dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves gathering your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until cremation. On that day, we simply transfer them to the crematorium of our choice, usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the remains being cremated and usually ready to collect by the next working day.
Such a humble send-off is suitable for those who have chosen to be cremated without a service, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have verbally relayed it to their loved ones, perhaps following, for example, donation of their body organs.
It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no relatives or friends who have survived them, or be able to attend due to distance and in this case, it seems inappropriate to provide a conventional service when a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
£799 plus expenses (Cremation Charge plus Doctor Payment if applicable) – this choice provides the following:
Sure, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ is also called the Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.
Burial option from Price £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option includes the following:
The concept of direct cremation or burial was with little to no hassle with all sides, with the intention of keeping things to a minimum and, in particular, of keeping costs to a minimum. We notice that very few people even like to view. Possibly only 1 in 10 would like to see their loved one.
In that situation, we can provide personal care for your loved one for an extra fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothing or in sheets of calico cotton (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive procedures, unless we are requested to do so by law or formal request).
Going back to the idea of little or no hassle on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping it to a minimum, including expenses, we generally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or, instead, they may opt to scatter the ashes in the memorial garden at the crematorium.
The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. A variety of options are available when it comes to urns. We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.
Simply ring us.
Normally, we can do that all over the phone, backed up by email – we can do a video conference with you, and if appropriate, we might consider meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t do this for everyone but if you have trouble leaving your house, we can consider coming over. But you can call us on phone to talk about your requirements first.
Our caring and responsible approach to the organisation of funerals or cremations is handled directly by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, who all aim to support you in your time of need with a package that fits your wishes. We’d like to share them with you.
“Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. We went on the website to look for a respectable funeral director in Hove since we reside in the north of England.
We chose Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services. By the time we arrived in Hove, all the preparations for the burial had been done to our satisfaction, and all other support we wanted was of a very high quality. You helped us in a very sad day, giving us the time to remember and honour a loved one -you treated our Mum with such respect and dignity”. – K. Sherlock.

The price difference reflects the fact that those collected from a private home or nursing home resting in our premises for a period of time (sometimes up to a week or more ) until they are taken to the crematorium, whereas those from hospitals and coroners are usually only with us for a few days.
