In Iford, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the funeral plans following the death of a loved one.
We have a range of choices, ranging from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no frills’ choices that will hopefully be right for you.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct cremation’ or Burial’ options differ significantly from the regular funeral option. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.
Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. For many people it is more affordable. We still maintain the highest of standards, we still ensure that dignity for your loved one is upheld, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company ethos is described as Caring, Compassion and Choice’
The choice of ‘direct cremation’ will benefit those who may be worrying about affordability or want a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Throughout , our sensitive staff will support you while upholding dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service that includes us taking your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day, we simply transfer them to the crematorium of our choice, usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation then happens on that day, and the cremation remains usually ready for collection on the next working day.
Such a modest departure is appropriate to those who have elected to be cremated without service, by their own choice and either recorded in will or dying wishes, or who may have communicated it orally to their loved ones, perhaps after the donation of their body organs.
For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person did not have any relatives or friends who outlived them , or be able to attend due to distance in this case, it will be inappropriate to provide a conventional service when direct cremation would seem more fitting.
From £799 including disbursements (Cremation Fee plus Doctor Fee where applicable) – this selection includes the following:
Sure – our Direct Burial’ – also known as a service called Direct to Graveside’ is available. The deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a ceremony, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
The principle of direct cremation or burial is for little to no hassle to all parties, with a view to keeping issues to a minimum and, in particular, to keeping costs to a minimum. We notice that very few people even like to view. Possibly only 1 in 10 would like to see their loved one.
In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Getting back to the idea of little or No Fuss for both parties, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we usually ask for clients to collect the ashes themselves from the crematorium. Or, instead, they may opt to scatter the ashes in the memorial garden at the crematorium.
The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. There are a variety of options open when it comes to urns. We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of urns available, and with our own individual tastes, we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all this in your time from the comfort of your own home.
Simply ring us.
Usually, we would do that all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conference with you, and if necessary, we might discuss meeting you personally, in your own house. We won’t do this for everybody, so can consider that if you’re having trouble getting out and about your own house. But you can first get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
Our considerate and responsible approach to funerals or cremations organisation is upheld directly by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife, Sallie, who all intend to support you in your time of need with a plan that fits your wishes. Sussex Funeral Services is very proud to offer a transparent pricing system to follow our codes of conduct on an ethical and moral basis. It is our belief that this transparency is incredibly necessary, providing a distinct alternative to any of the other funeral firms. Sussex Funeral Services is one of the few Brighton Funeral homes who wish you to be aware of all our funeral arrangements in the spirit of integrity and transparency.
Our direct funeral options in burial and cremation are simple and dignified, giving you and your family a more appropriate and affordable option. Knowing how huge the upset of losing a loved one can be, we are dedicated to giving you the most fitting funeral for your case. Our staff are experienced, caring and understanding of how difficult planning a funeral can be for a family or person. Our attention is focused upon honesty and integrity, and those experiencing a bereavement are all too often not made aware of affordable and dignified direct funeral packages that exist to help ease the monetary implications throughout this difficult and emotionally traumatic time.
The comments our customers make are of great importance to us.
We’d like to share a few with you.
“Our dear family friend died in Hove on the 21st of February. As we live in the north of England, we went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove.
Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick. By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. On a very sad day you helped us, giving us time to remember and honour a loved one, you treated our mother with such esteem and respect. – K. Sherlock.

|hospital or coroners||£799 plus disbursements|
|home or nursing home etc||£999 plus disbursements|
The price difference reflects the fact that those collected from a private home or nursing home resting in our premises for a period of time (sometimes up to a week or more ) until they are taken to the crematorium, whereas those from hospitals and coroners are usually only with us for a few days.
