Direct Cremation in Fittleworth

In Fittleworth, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you in making the appropriate funeral arrangements for your loved one’s death.

We have a range of choices, ranging from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no frills’ choices that will hopefully be right for you.

Our ‘No Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or burial’ options are radically different from the conventional funeral method. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.

We Provide Direct Cremation & Burial Services

Direct Cremation

Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free.   This is more affordable for many people. We still maintain the highest of standards, we still ensure that dignity for your loved one is upheld, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. The ethos of our company is described as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice.’

What is Direct Cremation?

Our ‘direct cremation’ option will be more favourable to those who worry about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.

Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service that includes us taking your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day they are cremated. On the day, in a suitable coffin, we will simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, usually the Woodvale Crematorium in Brighton. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the remains being cremated and usually ready to collect by the next working day.

Who is a direct cremation suited to?

Such a humble send-off is suitable for those who have chosen to be cremated without a service, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have verbally relayed it to their loved ones, perhaps following, for example, donation of their body organs.

For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no relatives or friends who have survived them, or be able to attend due to distance and in this case, it seems inappropriate to provide a conventional service when a direct cremation would seem more suitable.

How Much does a Direct Cremation cost and what does it include?

From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:

  • Removal of the body from a venue within 10 miles (extra fees would be paid for out of hours).
  • Removal of the body from a venue within 10 miles (extra fees would be paid for out of hours).
  • Conveying to the crematorium of our choosing in our adapted estate car.
  • Coffin made suitable for the cremation will be provided.

Is there a burial alternative?

Indeed, our “Direct Burial” service is also known as the “Direct to Graveside” service. A similar service, but instead of being taken to the crematorium, the body is taken to the graveyard and buried without a service.

How much is the Direct Burial?

Burial option from Price £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option includes the following:

  • Collection within 10 miles (extra hours would be charged).
  • Collection to our Brighton & Hove Cemetery in Hearsette.
  • Suitable coffin for the burial.

What about dressing our loved one or viewings?

For all parties, the idea of immediate cremation or burial was for little to No Fuss, with a view to reducing issues and in particular bringing costs down to a minimum.   We notice that very few people even like to view. Possibly only 1 in 10 would like to see their loved one.

In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).

What happens after the cremation?

Going back to the idea of little or no hassle on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping it to a minimum, including expenses, we generally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or, instead, they may choose to have the ashes spread in the remembrance garden in the crematorium.

There is an option to have the ashes delivered to your door for a further cost.   When it comes to urns, there are many options available.   We generally tell clients to look on the internet for urns given the wide range of choices available, and we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, based on individual tastes, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all of this from the comfort of your own home in your time.

How do I arrange cremation?

Simply ring us.

Usually, we would do that all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conference with you, and if necessary, we might discuss meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t do this for everybody, but we do so if you’re having trouble getting out and leaving your home. But you can call us on phone to talk about your requirements first.

Testimonials

The comments our customers make are of great importance to us.

We’d like to share a few with you.

“A very dear family friend of ours passed away on the 21st of February in Hove. We went to the website to find a respectable funeral director in Hove, as we reside in the north of England.

We chose Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip .   By the time we arrived in Hove, all the preparations for the burial had been done to our satisfaction, and all other support we wanted was of a very high quality. You helped us in a very sad day, giving us the time to remember and honour a loved one -you treated our Mum with such respect and dignity”. – K. Sherlock.
