In The-Platt, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you in making the appropriate funeral arrangements for your loved one’s death. We have a wide range of choices from the more straightforward ‘no hassle’ choices to our conventional funeral services. We aim to fulfill your needs.
Our plans for ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or ‘ Burial’ vary greatly from conventional funeral choices. These easy alternatives give you the possibility of holding a memorial or special ceremony at a later date.
Direct cremation is not just a simple ceremony but it can also be private and worry-free financially. It’s more affordable for many people. We take our high standards very seriously; we also guarantee that your beloved’s dignity is upheld and we carry ourselves in the most respectful way. Our company philosophy is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our choice of “direct cremation” will help you if you want a more limited, private funeral arrangement or indeed if you worry about affordability.
Our sensitive staff will gladly support you, while upholding dignity and discretion, throughout. Direct cremation means that we will pick up your beloved from wherever they died and get them back to our premises to keep them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day we simply convey them, in a suitable coffin, to the crematorium, of our choice, which is usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton. The cremation then takes place on that day with the cremated remains usually being ready for you to collect by the next working day.
Such a simple goodbye is appropriate for those who have opted to be cremated without a service, by their own preference and either recorded in a will or dying wishes, or they may have orally expressed it to their loved ones, maybe after, for example, donation of their body organs. For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no relatives or friends who have survived them, or be able to attend due to distance and in this case, it seems inappropriate to provide a conventional service when a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
Costs are from £799, plus disbursements which includes cremation fee plus Doctor’s fee where applicable – this option comes with the following:
Indeed, our “Direct Burial” service is also known as the “Direct to Graveside” service. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.
Burial option from Price £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option includes the following:
The principle of direct cremation or burial is for little to no hassle to all parties, with a view to keeping issues to a minimum and, in particular, to keeping costs to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.
In that situation, we can provide personal care for your loved one for an extra fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothing or in sheets of calico cotton (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive procedures unless we are requested to do so by law or formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no fuss for both sides, and again, to keep things to a minimum, including expenditures, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium themselves. Or, instead, they may opt to scatter the ashes in the memorial garden at the crematorium. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. There are a number of options available when it comes to urns.
We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of available urns, and we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, given individual tastes, and since there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your own convenience from the comfort of your home.
Simply give us a call.
Normally, we can do that all over the phone, backed up by email – we can do a video conference with you, and if appropriate, we might consider meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t do this for everyone but if you have trouble leaving your house, we can consider coming over. But you can first get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
Our caring and ethical method of planning a funeral or cremation is personally maintained by our funeral director, Philip, and his Wife Sallie, both of whom aim to provide you with a package that suits your needs completely. “Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. We went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove as we live in the north of England. We chose Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. On a really sad day you supported us, allowing us the chance to recognise and support a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and dignity. — K. Sherlock.
