Sussex Funeral Services in Tangmere can help you with the necessary funeral arrangements after losing a loved one. We have a variety of options ranging from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options, that hopefully will suit your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ Funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial’ options differ from the traditional funeral option in a significant way. These easy alternatives give you the chance to have a remembrance or special ceremony at a future date.
Direct cremation not just a simple event, but it can also be private and easy on the finances. This is more affordable for many people. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company philosophy is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or want a smaller and more private arrangement for funeral.
Our compassionate staff will always support you with dignity and discretion. The direct cremation means a simple service that involves us collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day of their cremation. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the cremated ashes usually ready for you to collect on the next day.
Such a simple farewell is suited to those who have opted to be cremated without a service, themselves, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have relayed it verbally to their loved ones, maybe following donation of their body organs for example. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person did not have any relatives or friends who outlived them , or be able to attend due to distance in this case, it will be inappropriate to provide a conventional service when direct cremation would seem more fitting.
From £799, plus disbursements (cremation fee, plus Doctor Fee if applicable) – this option includes the following:
Sure – our Direct Burial’ – also known as a service called Direct to Graveside’ is available. A similar service, but instead of being taken to the crematorium, the body is taken to the graveyard and buried without a service.
Burial selection starts from Price £1,000 including disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:
The concept of direct cremation or burial was with little to no hassle with all sides, with the intention of keeping things to a minimum and, in particular, of keeping costs to a minimum. We found out that not many people would really want to view the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 may wish to come and see their loved one.
In which case – For an extra fee we are able to provide personal care of your loved one, i.e. cleansing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheeting (we prefer not to embalm or use unnecessary invasive treatments unless we are obliged to do so by law or formal request).
Going back to the idea of little or no hassle on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping it to a minimum, including expenses, we generally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or, instead, they may opt to scatter the ashes in the memorial garden at the crematorium. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. There is a variety of options open when it comes to urns.
We typically suggest to clients to search for urns on the Internet as there are usually lots of choices to choose from, and with our own particular tastes, we find that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all this in your time from the comfort of your own home.
Just call us on the phone.
We can normally do it all over the phone, followed up by email – we can video conference with you and if necessary, we could consider visiting you locally, in your own home. We can’t do this for everyone but we can consider it if you have difficulties getting out and about your own home. But start by calling us to discuss your requirements.

“A very dear family friend of ours passed away on the 21st of February in Hove. We went to the website to find a respectable funeral director in Hove, as we reside in the north of England. We selected Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the funeral arrangements had been made to our satisfaction, and any other assistance that we needed was catered to a very high standard. On a very sad day you helped us, giving us time to remember and honour a loved one, you treated our mother with such esteem and respect. – K. Sherlock.
