In Sweethaws, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the funeral plans following the death of a loved one. We have a range of choices, ranging from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no frills’ choices that will hopefully be right for you.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ option and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial are totally different from the conventional funeral method. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.
Direct cremation is not just a simple ceremony but it can also be private and worry-free financially. It’s more affordable to a lot of people. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company ethos is described as Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our choice of “direct cremation” will help you if you want a more limited, private funeral arrangement or indeed if you worry about affordability.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. The direct cremation means a simple service that involves us collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day of their cremation. On that day, we simply transfer them to the crematorium of our choice, usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation then happens on that day, and the cremation remains usually ready for collection on the next working day.
This simple farewell is appropriate for those who want, of their own choice and either are recorded in a will or dying wishes, to be cremated without a service, or have verbally passed it on to their loved ones, perhaps after donating their body organ for example. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person did not have any relatives or friends who outlived them , or be able to attend due to distance in this case, it will be inappropriate to provide a conventional service when direct cremation would seem more fitting.
From £799, plus disbursements (cremation fee, plus Doctor Fee if applicable) – this option includes the following:
Sure, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ is also called the Direct to Graveside’ service. The deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a ceremony, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
For all parties, the idea of immediate cremation or burial was for little to No Fuss, with a view to reducing issues and in particular bringing costs down to a minimum. We found out that not many people would really want to view the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 may wish to come and see their loved one.
In this case, we can provide personal care of your loved one for an additional fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we tend not to preserve by embalming or use unnecessarily intrusive therapies unless we are required by law or formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no fuss for both sides, and again, to keep things to a minimum, including expenditures, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium themselves. Or, instead, they may opt to scatter the ashes in the memorial garden at the crematorium. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. There is a variety of options open when it comes to urns.
We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of urns available, and with our own individual tastes, we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all this in your time from the comfort of your own home.
Just call us.
Normally, we can do that all over the phone, backed up by email – we can do a video conference with you, and if appropriate, we might consider meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t do this for everybody, but we do so if you’re having trouble getting out and leaving your home. But you can get started by calling to talk about your requirements.
Our caring and responsible approach to the organisation of funerals or cremations is handled directly by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, who all aim to support you in your time of need with a package that fits your wishes. Sussex Funeral Services are very proud to offer transparent pricing to uphold our ethical and moral codes of conduct. It is our belief that this transparency is incredibly necessary, providing a distinct alternative to any of the other funeral firms. Sussex Funeral Services is one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who, in the interests of integrity and transparency, want you to know about our funeral service options. Our direct funeral and cremation services are easy and honourable, offering you and your family a more suitable and inexpensive choice.
Knowing how huge an upheaval losing a loved one can be, we are committed to offering you the most suitable funeral for your situation. Our staff are experienced, caring and understanding of how difficult planning a funeral can be for a family or person. Our attention is focused upon honesty and integrity, and those experiencing a bereavement are all too often not made aware of affordable and dignified direct funeral packages that exist to help ease the monetary implications throughout this difficult and emotionally traumatic time.
Comments from our clients are of tremendous value to us.
We’d like to share some with you.
“Our very beloved family friend passed away in Hove on February 21. As we live in the north of England, we went online to look for a credible funeral director in Hove. We chose Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the funeral arrangements had been made to our satisfaction, and any other assistance that we needed was catered to a very high standard. You helped us in a very sad day, giving us the time to remember and honour a loved one -you treated our Mum with such respect and dignity”. – K. Sherlock.
