St-Leonards Cheap Funeral Directors

Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the appropriate funeral arrangements in St-Leonards, when it comes to the death of a loved one. We have a variety of options from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options that will hopefully fit your needs.

Our ‘No-Fuss’ Funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial’ options differ from the traditional funeral option in a significant way. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.

We Provide Direct Cremation & Burial Services

Direct Cremation

Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. This is more affordable for many people. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company ethos is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’

What is Direct Cremation?

The choice of ‘direct cremation’ will benefit those who may be worrying about affordability or want a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.

Our sensitive staff will gladly support you, while upholding dignity and discretion, throughout. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves gathering your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until cremation. On that day, we simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, normally Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the remains being cremated and usually ready to collect by the next working day.

Who is a direct cremation suited to?

Such a humble send-off is suitable for those who have chosen to be cremated without a service, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have verbally relayed it to their loved ones, perhaps following, for example, donation of their body organs. It may be that a direct cremation is the most appropriate for financial reasons, either because the person who died did not prepare financially for their own demise or indeed the person left to arrange is not in a position to be able to pay for a traditional service. The deceased person may have had no family or friends who have survived them or be able to attend due to distance, and in that case, it may be unfitting to have a regular service when a direct cremation might seem more appropriate.

How Much Does a Direct Cremation cost and what does it include?

From £799 including disbursements (Cremation Fee plus Doctor Fee where applicable) – this selection includes the following:

  • Removal of the body from a venue within 10 miles (extra fees would be paid for out of hours).
  • Conveying in our chosen car to the crematorium of our choice.
  • Coffin made suitable for the cremation will be provided.

Is there a burial alternative?

Sure – our Direct Burial’ – also known as a service called Direct to Graveside’ is available. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.

How much is the Direct Burial?

Burial option price starts at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:

  • Collection within 10 miles (extra hour costs apply).
  • Conveyance to the Brighton & Hove Burial ground in our Hearsette;
  • Suitable coffin for the burial.

What about dressing our loved one or viewings?

For all sides, the notion of immediate cremation or burial is to reduce fuss, avoid issues and, in particular, keeping costs to a minimum. We find that very few people actually want to go through any viewing of the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 might wish to come and see their loved one.

In this case, for an additional charge, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive treatments unless we are required to do so by legislation or by formal request).

What happens after the cremation?

Going back to the idea of little or no hassle on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping it to a minimum, including expenses, we generally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden. There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. There are a number of options available when it comes to urns.

We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.

How do I arrange cremation?

Simply ring us.

Usually, we would do that all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conference with you, and if necessary, we might discuss meeting you personally, in your own house. We won’t do this for everybody, so can consider that if you’re having trouble getting out and about your own house. But you can first get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.

Our transparency and integrity

Our considerate and responsible approach to funerals or cremations organisation is upheld directly by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife, Sallie, who all intend to support you in your time of need with a plan that fits your wishes. Sussex Funeral Services is very proud to offer a transparent pricing system to follow our codes of conduct on an ethical and moral basis. We believe this openness is extremely important, offering a distinct alternative to some of the other funeral companies. Sussex Funeral Services are one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who want you to be aware of all our funeral service options in the name of decency and clarity. Our direct burial and cremation funeral options are easy and dignified, providing you and your family a more affordable option.

Knowing how huge an upheaval losing a loved one can be, we are committed to offering you the most suitable funeral for your situation. Our team are knowledgeable, compassionate, and mindful of how difficult a funeral can be for a family. Our attention is on honesty and integrity, and those suffering bereavements are all too often unaware of affordable and dignified direct funeral services that exist to help mitigate budgetary costs throughout this complicated and emotionally stressful period.

  • Sussex Funeral Services also can provide a completely personalised burial or cremation service.
  • Supporting and assisting every step of the way.
  • Fully experienced staff with understanding.
  • No concealed bills – we’re proud of our accountability.
  • Simple, direct burial and cremation packages also available.

Testimonials

Our clients’ comments are of much importance to us.

We would like some to share with you.

“Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. As we live in the north of England, we went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove. We chose Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.

By the time we arrived in Hove, all the preparations for the burial had been done to our satisfaction, and all other support we wanted was of a very high quality. You supported us on a really sad day, allowing us the chance to recognise and appreciate a loved one, you handled our mother with such respect and dignity. – K. Sherlock.
