In Selham, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the funeral plans following the death of a loved one. We have a range of choices, from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no fuss’ choices that will hopefully meet your needs.
Our plans for ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or ‘ Burial’ vary greatly from conventional funeral choices. These simple alternatives give you the option of having a memorial or special ceremony at a later time.
Direct cremation not just a simple event, but it can also be private and easy on the finances. It’s more affordable for many people. We also uphold the highest standards; we continue to safeguard the dignity of your loved and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company’s philosophy is as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
The choice of ‘direct cremation’ will benefit those who may be worrying about affordability or want a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until their cremation day. On that day, we simply transfer them to the crematorium of our choice, usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the remains being cremated and usually ready to collect by the next working day.
Such a simple goodbye is appropriate for those who have opted to be cremated without a service, by their own preference and either recorded in a will or dying wishes, or they may have orally expressed it to their loved ones, maybe after, for example, donation of their body organs. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. It could be that the deceased had no relatives or friends who had survived them or be able to attend due to distance and, in this situation, a conventional service may be unsuitable if a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:
Sure – our Direct Burial’ – also known as a service called Direct to Graveside’ is available. A similar service, but instead of being taken to the crematorium, the body is taken to the graveyard and buried without a service.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
For all sides, the notion of immediate cremation or burial is to reduce fuss, avoid issues and, in particular, keeping costs to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.
In which case – For an extra fee we are able to provide personal care of your loved one, i.e. cleansing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheeting (we prefer not to embalm or use unnecessary invasive treatments unless we are obliged to do so by law or formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no hassle for both sides, and again, in order to keep things to a minimum, including prices, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium on their own. Or alternatively they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the garden of remembrance at the crematorium. There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. There is a variety of options open when it comes to urns.
We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.
Just call us on the phone.
We can normally do it all over the phone, followed up by email – we can video conference with you and if necessary, we could consider visiting you locally, in your own home. We can’t do this for everybody, but we do so if you’re having trouble getting out and leaving your home. But you can call us first let’s talk about your requirements.
Our considerate and responsible approach to funerals or cremations organisation is upheld directly by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife, Sallie, who all intend to support you in your time of need with a plan that fits your wishes. We would like some to share with you.
“Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. We went to the website to find a respectable funeral director in Hove, as we reside in the north of England. We selected Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. You supported us on a really sad day, allowing us the chance to recognise and appreciate a loved one, you handled our mother with such respect and dignity. – K. Sherlock.
