In Poling, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you in making the appropriate funeral arrangements for your loved one’s death. We have a range of choices, from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no fuss’ choices that will hopefully meet your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct cremation’ or Burial’ options differ significantly from the regular funeral option. These easy alternatives give you the possibility of holding a memorial or special ceremony at a later date.
Direct cremation not just a simple event, but it can also be private and easy on the finances. That is more affordable for many people. We still perform to the highest standards; we also guarantee that your loved one’s dignity will be upheld and we are work in the most respectful manner. Our company philosophy is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or want a smaller and more private arrangement for funeral.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means that we will pick up your beloved from wherever they died and get them back to our premises to keep them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the cremated ashes usually ready for you to collect on the next day.
This simple farewell is appropriate for those who want, of their own choice and either are recorded in a will or dying wishes, to be cremated without a service, or have verbally passed it on to their loved ones, perhaps after donating their body organ for example. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. It could be that the deceased had no relatives or friends who had survived them or be able to attend due to distance and, in this situation, a conventional service may be unsuitable if a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
From £799, plus disbursements (cremation fee, plus Doctor Fee if applicable) – this option includes the following:
Sure – our Direct Burial’ – also known as a service called Direct to Graveside’ is available. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.
Burial choice price begins at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option covers the following:
For all parties, the idea of immediate cremation or burial was for little to No Fuss, with a view to reducing issues and in particular bringing costs down to a minimum. We notice that very few people even like to view. Possibly only 1 in 10 would like to see their loved one.
In that situation, we can provide personal care for your loved one for an extra fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothing or in sheets of calico cotton (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive procedures unless we are requested to do so by law or formal request).
Going back to the idea of little or no hassle on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping it to a minimum, including expenses, we generally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Alternatively, they might choose to scatter ashes in the crematorium remembrance garden. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. There are several options available for urns.
We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.
Simply give us a call.
We can normally do it all over the phone, followed up by email – we can video conference with you and if necessary, we could consider visiting you locally, in your own home. We can’t do this for everybody, but we do so if you’re having trouble getting out and leaving your home. But you can call us first let’s talk about your requirements.
Our compassionate and ethical approach to arranging a funeral or cremation is upheld personally by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, who both hope to help you in your time of need with a package that suits your wishes, completely. Sussex Funeral Services is very proud to offer a transparent pricing system to follow our codes of conduct on an ethical and moral basis. We know that this transparency is extremely imperative, giving us a distinct alternative from some other funeral companies. Sussex Funeral Services is one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who, in the interests of integrity and transparency, want you to know about our funeral service options. Our direct funeral options in burial and cremation are simple and dignified, giving you and your family a more appropriate and affordable option.

“Our very close family member died in Hove on 21 February. We went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove as we live in the north of England. Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. On a really sad day, you assisted us, allowing us time to consider and remember a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and integrity. – K. Sherlock.
