In Playden, Sussex Funeral Services can help you with necessary funeral arrangements when it comes to the loss of a loved one. We have a range of choices, from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no fuss’ choices that will hopefully meet your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ Funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial’ options differ from the traditional funeral option in a significant way. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.
Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. This is more affordable for many people. We also uphold the highest standards; we continue to safeguard the dignity of your loved and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company’s philosophy is as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our choice of “direct cremation” will help you if you want a more limited, private funeral arrangement or indeed if you worry about affordability.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves gathering your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until cremation. On that day, we simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, normally Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation then happens on that day, and the cremation remains usually ready for collection on the next working day.
Such a humble send-off is suitable for those who have chosen to be cremated without a service, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have verbally relayed it to their loved ones, perhaps following, for example, donation of their body organs. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person did not have any relatives or friends who outlived them , or be able to attend due to distance in this case, it will be inappropriate to provide a conventional service when direct cremation would seem more fitting.
From £799 including disbursements (Cremation Fee plus Doctor Fee where applicable) – this selection includes the following:
Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, the dead is taken to a graveyard and buried, without a service, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial choice price begins at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option covers the following:
The idea of the direct cremation or burial was for little or No Fuss for both parties, with a view to keeping things to a minimum and in particular to keep costs to a minimum. We find that very few people actually want to go through any viewing of the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 might wish to come and see their loved one.
In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no fuss for both sides, and again, to keep things to a minimum, including expenditures, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium themselves. Or alternatively they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the garden of remembrance at the crematorium. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. There are a number of options available when it comes to urns.
We generally tell clients to look on the internet for urns given the wide range of choices available, and we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, based on individual tastes, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all of this from the comfort of your own home in your time.
Just call us on the phone.
Normally, we can do that all over the phone, backed up by email – we can do a video conference with you, and if appropriate, we might consider meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t do this for everyone but we can consider it if you have difficulties getting out and about your own home. But you can call us on the phone to talk about your requirements first.
Our caring and ethical method of planning a funeral or cremation is personally maintained by our funeral director, Philip, and his Wife Sallie, both of whom aim to provide you with a package that suits your needs completely. Sussex Funeral Services are very proud to offer transparent pricing to uphold our ethical and moral codes of conduct. We believe this openness is extremely important, offering a distinct alternative to some of the other funeral companies. Sussex Funeral Services is one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who, in the interests of integrity and transparency, want you to know about our funeral service options. Our direct funeral and cremation services are easy and honourable, offering you and your family a more suitable and inexpensive choice.
Knowing how tremendous upheaval a losing loved one can be, we are devoted to giving you the right funeral for your circumstance. Our team are seasoned, compassionate and know how tough it can be for a family or person to plan a funeral. Our attention is on honesty and integrity, and those suffering bereavements are all too often unaware of affordable and dignified direct funeral services that exist to help mitigate budgetary costs throughout this complicated and emotionally stressful period.
Our clients’ comments are of much importance to us.
We’d like to share some with you.
“Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. We went on the website to look for a respectable funeral director in Hove since we reside in the north of England. Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the funeral arrangements had been made to our satisfaction, and any other assistance that we needed was catered to a very high standard. On a really sad day, you assisted us, allowing us time to consider and remember a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and integrity. – K. Sherlock.
