Sussex Funeral Services in Milland can help you with the necessary funeral arrangements after losing a loved one. We have a wide range of choices from the more straightforward ‘no hassle’ choices to our conventional funeral services. We aim to fulfill your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ option and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial are totally different from the conventional funeral method. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.
Direct cremation is not just a simple ceremony but it can also be private and worry-free financially. It’s more affordable for many people. We still perform to the highest standards; we also guarantee that your loved one’s dignity will be upheld and we are work in the most respectful manner. Our company ethos is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or want a smaller and more private arrangement for funeral.
Throughout this time our we will be there for you to help you, while maintaining dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves gathering your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until cremation. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation takes place on that day and the cremated remains are usually available to be collected on the next working day.
This simple farewell is appropriate for those who want, of their own choice and either are recorded in a will or dying wishes, to be cremated without a service, or have verbally passed it on to their loved ones, perhaps after donating their body organ for example. For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person did not have any relatives or friends who outlived them , or be able to attend due to distance in this case, it will be inappropriate to provide a conventional service when direct cremation would seem more fitting.
From £799, plus disbursements (cremation fee, plus Doctor Fee if applicable) – this option includes the following:
Sure – our Direct Burial’ – also known as a service called Direct to Graveside’ is available. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
The idea of the direct cremation or burial was for little or No Fuss for both parties, with a view to keeping things to a minimum and in particular to keep costs to a minimum. We found out that not many people would really want to view the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 may wish to come and see their loved one.
In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Getting back to the idea of little or No Fuss for both parties, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we usually ask for clients to collect the ashes themselves from the crematorium. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden. There is the choice that the ashes can be shipped to your door at an extra cost. A variety of options are available when it comes to urns.
We typically suggest to clients to search for urns on the Internet as there are usually lots of choices to choose from, and with our own particular tastes, we find that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all this in your time from the comfort of your own home.
Simply give us a call.
Usually, we would do that all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conference with you, and if necessary, we might discuss meeting you personally, in your own house. We won’t do this for everybody, so can consider that if you’re having trouble getting out and about your own house. But you can call us on the phone to talk about your requirements first.
Our compassionate and ethical approach to arranging a funeral or cremation is upheld personally by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, who both hope to help you in your time of need with a package that suits your wishes, completely. Sussex Funeral Services is one of the only Brighton Funeral companies who want you to be aware of all our funeral arrangements in the name of dedication and clarity. Our direct funeral options in burial and cremation are simple and dignified, giving you and your family a more appropriate and affordable option.

Our team are experienced, sensitive, and aware of how hard arranging a funeral can be for a family or an individual. Our emphasis is based on fairness and integrity, and those who undergo loss are all too often ignorant of the inexpensive and dignified direct funeral services that exist to help alleviate the monetary consequences during this painful and emotionally stressful period.
Our clients’ comments are of much importance to us.
We would like some to share with you.
“Our dear family friend died in Hove on the 21st of February. We went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove as we live in the north of England. We chose Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the burial plans had been rendered to our satisfaction and all other support we wanted was catered to a very high level. On a really sad day you supported us, allowing us the chance to recognise and support a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and dignity. — K. Sherlock.
