In Mark-Cross, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you in making the appropriate funeral arrangements for your loved one’s death. We have a variety of options ranging from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options, that hopefully will suit your needs.
Our plans for ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or ‘ Burial’ vary greatly from conventional funeral choices. These easy alternatives give you the chance to have a remembrance or special ceremony at a future date.
Not only is direct cremation simple, but it is also be private and financially beneficial. For many people it is more affordable. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company ethos is described as Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option will be more favourable to those who worry about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until their cremation day. On that day we simply convey them, in a suitable coffin, to the crematorium, of our choice, which is usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton. The cremation takes place on that day and the cremated remains are usually available to be collected on the next working day.
Such a simple farewell is suited to those who have opted to be cremated without a service, themselves, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have relayed it verbally to their loved ones, maybe following donation of their body organs for example. It may be that for financial reasons a direct cremation is better suited, either the person who has died didn’t prepare financially for their own demise or indeed the person left to arrange is not in a position to be able to pay for a traditional service. The deceased person may have had no relatives or friends who have survived them, or be able to attend due to distance and in this case, it seems inappropriate to provide a conventional service when a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
From £799, plus disbursements (cremation fee, plus Doctor Fee if applicable) – this option includes the following:
Sure – our Direct Burial’ – also known as a service called Direct to Graveside’ is available. A similar service, the dead is taken to a graveyard and buried, without a service, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial option from Price £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option includes the following:
The concept of direct cremation or burial was with little to no hassle with all sides, with the intention of keeping things to a minimum and, in particular, of keeping costs to a minimum. We find that very few people actually want to go through any viewing of the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 might wish to come and see their loved one.
In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no fuss for both sides, and again, to keep things to a minimum, including expenditures, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium themselves. Or, instead, they may choose to have the ashes spread in the remembrance garden in the crematorium. There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. There are several options available for urns.
We generally tell clients to look on the internet for urns given the wide range of choices available, and we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, based on individual tastes, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all of this from the comfort of your own home in your time.
Just call us.
Usually, we would do that all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conference with you, and if necessary, we might discuss meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t do this for everyone but if you have trouble leaving your house, we can consider coming over. But you can first get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
Our compassionate and responsible approach to planning a burial or cremation is handled practised by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, all hoping to help you with a plan that fits your wishes perfectly. “Our very close family member died in Hove on 21 February. We went to the website to find a respectable funeral director in Hove, as we reside in the north of England. We chose Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. You supported us on a really sad day, allowing us the chance to recognise and appreciate a loved one, you handled our mother with such respect and dignity. – K. Sherlock.
