Sussex Funeral Services in Loxwood can help you with the necessary funeral arrangements after losing a loved one. We have a variety of options ranging from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options, that hopefully will suit your needs.
Our ‘No Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or burial’ options are radically different from the conventional funeral method. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.
Not only is direct cremation simple, but it is also be private and financially beneficial. This is more affordable for many people. We take our high standards very seriously; we also guarantee that your beloved’s dignity is upheld and we carry ourselves in the most respectful way. The ethos of our company is described as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice.’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service that includes us taking your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation takes place on that day and the cremated remains are usually available to be collected on the next working day.
Such a simple farewell is suited to those who have opted to be cremated without a service, themselves, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have relayed it verbally to their loved ones, maybe following donation of their body organs for example. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no family or friends who have survived them or be able to attend due to distance, and in that case, it may be unfitting to have a regular service when a direct cremation might seem more appropriate.
From £799, plus disbursements (cremation fee, plus Doctor Fee if applicable) – this option includes the following:
Indeed, our “Direct Burial” service is also known as the “Direct to Graveside” service. A similar service, but instead of being taken to the crematorium, the body is taken to the graveyard and buried without a service.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
For all parties, the idea of immediate cremation or burial was for little to No Fuss, with a view to reducing issues and in particular bringing costs down to a minimum. We notice that very few people even like to view. Possibly only 1 in 10 would like to see their loved one.
In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no hassle for both sides, and again, in order to keep things to a minimum, including prices, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium on their own. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden. There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. There are a number of options available when it comes to urns.
We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of available urns, and we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, given individual tastes, and since there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your own convenience from the comfort of your home.
Just call us.
We can usually do it all over the phone, followed by email – we can video conference with you and we will consider visiting you personally, in your own house, if necessary. We can’t do this for everybody, but we do so if you’re having trouble getting out and leaving your home. But you can call us first let’s talk about your requirements.

“Our dear family friend died in Hove on the 21st of February. We went to the website to find a respectable funeral director in Hove, as we reside in the north of England. We chose Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the preparations for the burial had been done to our satisfaction, and all other support we wanted was of a very high quality. On a really sad day you supported us, allowing us the chance to recognise and support a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and dignity. — K. Sherlock.
