In Lower-Horsebridge, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you in making the appropriate funeral arrangements for your loved one’s death. We have a range of choices, from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no fuss’ choices that will hopefully meet your needs.
Our plans for ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or ‘ Burial’ vary greatly from conventional funeral choices. These easy alternatives give you the possibility of holding a memorial or special ceremony at a later date.
Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. That is more affordable for many people. We still perform to the highest standards; we also guarantee that your loved one’s dignity will be upheld and we are work in the most respectful manner. Our company ethos is described as Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Our sensitive staff will gladly support you, while upholding dignity and discretion, throughout. Direct cremation means a simple service that includes us taking your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day they are cremated. On the day, in a suitable coffin, we will simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, usually the Woodvale Crematorium in Brighton. The cremation then takes place on that day with the cremated remains usually being ready for you to collect by the next working day.
Such a humble send-off is suitable for those who have chosen to be cremated without a service, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have verbally relayed it to their loved ones, perhaps following, for example, donation of their body organs. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no family or friends who have survived them or be able to attend due to distance, and in that case, it may be unfitting to have a regular service when a direct cremation might seem more appropriate.
From £799 including disbursements (Cremation Fee plus Doctor Fee where applicable) – this selection includes the following:
Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, the dead is taken to a graveyard and buried, without a service, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial option price starts at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:
The principle of direct cremation or burial is for little to no hassle to all parties, with a view to keeping issues to a minimum and, in particular, to keeping costs to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.
In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no hassle for both sides, and again, in order to keep things to a minimum, including prices, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium on their own. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden. There is a chance that the ashes will be shipped to your door at a further cost. A variety of options are available when it comes to urns.
We generally tell clients to look on the internet for urns given the wide range of choices available, and we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, based on individual tastes, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all of this from the comfort of your own home in your time.
Simply ring us.
Normally, we can do that all over the phone, backed up by email – we can do a video conference with you, and if appropriate, we might consider meeting you personally, in your own house. We won’t do this for everybody, so can consider that if you’re having trouble getting out and about your own house. But you can get started by calling to talk about your requirements.
Our caring and responsible approach to the organisation of funerals or cremations is handled directly by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, who all aim to support you in your time of need with a package that fits your wishes. Sussex Funeral Services is very proud to offer a transparent pricing system to follow our codes of conduct on an ethical and moral basis. We know that this transparency is extremely imperative, giving us a distinct alternative from some other funeral companies. Sussex Funeral Services are one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who want you to be aware of all our funeral service options in the name of decency and clarity. Our direct funeral options in burial and cremation are simple and dignified, giving you and your family a more appropriate and affordable option.
Knowing how big the trauma of losing a loved one can be, we are committed to giving you the most fitting funeral for your circumstance. Our team are trained, compassionate and understand how tough planning a funeral can be for a family or an individual. Our emphasis is based on fairness and integrity, and those who undergo loss are all too often ignorant of the inexpensive and dignified direct funeral services that exist to help alleviate the monetary consequences during this painful and emotionally stressful period.
The reviews from our customers are of great importance to us.
We’d like to share some with you.
“A very dear family friend of ours passed away on the 21st of February in Hove. We went to the website to find a respectable funeral director in Hove, as we reside in the north of England. We chose Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip.
By the time we landed in Hove, all the burial arrangements had been carried out to our satisfaction, and all other help we wanted was catered for to a very high level. You helped us in a very sad day, giving us the time to remember and honour a loved one -you treated our Mum with such respect and dignity”. – K. Sherlock.
