In Little-London, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you in making the appropriate funeral arrangements for your loved one’s death. We have a variety of options ranging from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options, that hopefully will suit your needs.

Our ‘No Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or burial’ options are radically different from the conventional funeral method. These easy alternatives give you the chance to have a remembrance or special ceremony at a future date.

We Provide Direct Cremation & Burial Services

Direct Cremation

Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. It’s more affordable for many people. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company ethos is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’

What is Direct Cremation?

The choice of ‘direct cremation’ will benefit those who may be worrying about affordability or want a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.

Our sensitive staff will gladly support you, while upholding dignity and discretion, throughout. The direct cremation means a simple service that involves us collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day of their cremation. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation then happens on that day, and the cremation remains usually ready for collection on the next working day.

Who is a direct cremation suited to?

Such a simple farewell is suited to those who have opted to be cremated without a service, themselves, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have relayed it verbally to their loved ones, maybe following donation of their body organs for example. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person didn’t have any family or friends having outlived them, or able to attend due to distance and, in that case, it seems inappropriate to have a traditional service, when a direct cremation might seem more fitting.

How Much Does a Direct Cremation cost and what does it include?

From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:

  • Collection of the body from a place within 10 miles (extra charges may be incurred for out of hours).
  • Conveying to crematorium of our choosing in our specialised vehicle.
  • Coffin suitable for cremation shall be given.

Is there a burial alternative?

Yes, our ‘Direct Burial’ is also regarded to as the ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, but rather than being cremated, the body is taken to the cemetery and buried without a service.

How much is the Direct Burial?

Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:

  • Collection within 10 miles (extra hour charges apply).
  • Moving to Brighton & Hove Graveyard in our Hearsette.
  • Coffin suitable for burial.

What about dressing our loved one or viewings?

For all sides, the notion of immediate cremation or burial is to reduce fuss, avoid issues and, in particular, keeping costs to a minimum. We find that very few people even like to see the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 would wish to come to see their loved one.

In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).

What happens after the cremation?

Going back to the concept of little or no fuss on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we normally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden. There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. A variety of options are available when it comes to urns.

We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of available urns, and we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, given individual tastes, and since there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your own convenience from the comfort of your home.

How do I arrange cremation?

Simply ring us.

We would usually do it all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conferencing with you and, if required, we will consider visiting you at home. We can’t afford this for everybody, but if you have problems getting out and about your house, we will consider it. But start by calling us to discuss your requirements.

Testimonials

Our clients’ comments are of much importance to us.

We would like some to share with you.

“Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. As we live in the north of England, we went online to look for a credible funeral director in Hove. We selected Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.

By the time we arrived in Hove, all the preparations for the burial had been done to our satisfaction, and all other support we wanted was of a very high quality. On a really sad day you supported us, allowing us the chance to recognise and support a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and dignity. — K. Sherlock.
