Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the appropriate funeral arrangements in Langney-Village, when it comes to the death of a loved one. We have a wide range of choices from the more straightforward ‘no hassle’ choices to our conventional funeral services. We aim to fulfill your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct cremation’ or Burial’ options differ significantly from the regular funeral option. These simple options allow you to hold a memorial or special ceremony later on.
Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. It’s more affordable to a lot of people. We still perform to the highest standards; we also guarantee that your loved one’s dignity will be upheld and we are work in the most respectful manner. The ethos of our company is described as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice.’
Our ‘direct cremation’ option will be more favourable to those who worry about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.
Throughout this time our we will be there for you to help you, while maintaining dignity and discretion. The direct cremation means a simple service that involves us collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day of their cremation. On that day, we simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, normally Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the remains being cremated and usually ready to collect by the next working day.
Such a simple farewell is suited to those who have opted to be cremated without a service, themselves, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have relayed it verbally to their loved ones, maybe following donation of their body organs for example. For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person did not have any relatives or friends who outlived them , or be able to attend due to distance in this case, it will be inappropriate to provide a conventional service when direct cremation would seem more fitting.
From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:
Sure, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ is also called the Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, but instead of being taken to the crematorium, the body is taken to the graveyard and buried without a service.
Burial option price starts at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:
For all sides, the notion of immediate cremation or burial is to reduce fuss, avoid issues and, in particular, keeping costs to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.
In which case – For an extra fee we are able to provide personal care of your loved one, i.e. cleansing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheeting (we prefer not to embalm or use unnecessary invasive treatments unless we are obliged to do so by law or formal request).
Going back to the concept of little or no fuss on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we normally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or, instead, they may opt to scatter the ashes in the memorial garden at the crematorium. There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. There is a variety of options open when it comes to urns.
We generally tell clients to look on the internet for urns given the wide range of choices available, and we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, based on individual tastes, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all of this from the comfort of your own home in your time.
Just call us on the phone.
Normally, we can do that all over the phone, backed up by email – we can do a video conference with you, and if appropriate, we might consider meeting you personally, in your own house. We won’t do this for everybody, so can consider that if you’re having trouble getting out and about your own house. But you can call us on the phone to talk about your requirements first.

We’d like to share a few with you.
“Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. We went on the website to look for a respectable funeral director in Hove since we reside in the north of England. We selected Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.
By the time we landed in Hove, all the burial arrangements had been carried out to our satisfaction, and all other help we wanted was catered for to a very high level. You helped us in a very sad day, giving us the time to remember and honour a loved one -you treated our Mum with such respect and dignity”. – K. Sherlock.
