Sussex Funeral Services in Hollington-Park can help you with the necessary funeral arrangements after losing a loved one. We have a variety of options ranging from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options, that hopefully will suit your needs.
Our ‘No Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or burial’ options are radically different from the conventional funeral method. These easy alternatives give you the chance to have a remembrance or special ceremony at a future date.
Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. For many people it is more affordable. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company ethos is described as Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our choice of “direct cremation” will help you if you want a more limited, private funeral arrangement or indeed if you worry about affordability.
Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service that includes us taking your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day we simply convey them, in a suitable coffin, to the crematorium, of our choice, which is usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the remains being cremated and usually ready to collect by the next working day.
This simple farewell is appropriate for those who want, of their own choice and either are recorded in a will or dying wishes, to be cremated without a service, or have verbally passed it on to their loved ones, perhaps after donating their body organ for example. For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no family or friends who have survived them or be able to attend due to distance, and in that case, it may be unfitting to have a regular service when a direct cremation might seem more appropriate.
From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:
Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, but instead of being taken to the crematorium, the body is taken to the graveyard and buried without a service.
Burial option from Price £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option includes the following:
For all sides, the notion of immediate cremation or burial is to reduce fuss, avoid issues and, in particular, keeping costs to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.
In that situation, we can provide personal care for your loved one for an extra fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothing or in sheets of calico cotton (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive procedures unless we are requested to do so by law or formal request).
Going back to the concept of little or no fuss on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we normally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden. There is an option to have the ashes delivered to your door for a further cost. There are a number of options available when it comes to urns.
We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of available urns, and we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, given individual tastes, and since there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your own convenience from the comfort of your home.
Just give us a call.
We can normally do it all over the phone, followed up by email – we can video conference with you and if necessary, we could consider visiting you locally, in your own home. We can’t do this for everyone but if you have trouble leaving your house, we can consider coming over. But you can call us on the phone to talk about your requirements first.

“Our dear family friend died in Hove on the 21st of February. We went to the website to find a respectable funeral director in Hove, as we reside in the north of England. We selected Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.
By the time we landed in Hove, all the burial arrangements had been carried out to our satisfaction, and all other help we wanted was catered for to a very high level. You supported us on a really sad day, allowing us the chance to recognise and appreciate a loved one, you handled our mother with such respect and dignity. – K. Sherlock.
