Herstmonceux Cheap Funeral Directors

In Herstmonceux, Sussex Funeral Services can help you with necessary funeral arrangements when it comes to the loss of a loved one. We have a variety of options ranging from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options, that hopefully will suit your needs.

Our ‘No Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or burial’ options are radically different from the conventional funeral method. These easy alternatives give you the chance to have a remembrance or special ceremony at a future date.

We Provide Direct Cremation & Burial Services

Direct Cremation

Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. That is more affordable for many people. We also uphold the highest standards; we continue to safeguard the dignity of your loved and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company ethos is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’

What is Direct Cremation?

Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or want a smaller and more private arrangement for funeral.

Our compassionate staff will always support you with dignity and discretion. The direct cremation means a simple service that involves us collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day of their cremation. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the cremated ashes usually ready for you to collect on the next day.

Who is a direct cremation suited to?

Such a humble send-off is suitable for those who have chosen to be cremated without a service, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have verbally relayed it to their loved ones, perhaps following, for example, donation of their body organs. It may be that a direct cremation is the most appropriate for financial reasons, either because the person who died did not prepare financially for their own demise or indeed the person left to arrange is not in a position to be able to pay for a traditional service. The deceased person may have had no relatives or friends who have survived them, or be able to attend due to distance and in this case, it seems inappropriate to provide a conventional service when a direct cremation would seem more suitable.

How Much Does a Direct Cremation cost and what does it include?

Costs are from £799, plus disbursements which includes cremation fee plus Doctor’s fee where applicable – this option comes with the following:

  • Collection of the body from a location within 10 miles (extra charges will be incurred for out of hours).
  • Conveying to a crematorium of our preference in our suitable vehicle.
  • Coffin made suitable for the cremation will be provided.

Is there a burial alternative?

Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, but instead of being taken to the crematorium, the body is taken to the graveyard and buried without a service.

How much is the Direct Burial?

Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:

  • Collection within 10 miles (extra hour charges apply).
  • Collection to the Brighton & Hove Cemetery in Hearsette.
  • Burial-fitting coffin.

What about dressing our loved one or viewings?

The idea of the direct cremation or burial was for little or No Fuss for both parties, with a view to keeping things to a minimum and in particular to keep costs to a minimum. We found out that not many people would really want to view the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 may wish to come and see their loved one.

In that situation, we can provide personal care for your loved one for an extra fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothing or in sheets of calico cotton (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive procedures unless we are requested to do so by law or formal request).

What happens after the cremation?

Going back to the concept of little or no fuss on all sides, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we normally ask clients to collect the ashes directly from the crematorium. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden. There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. There are a number of options available when it comes to urns.

We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.

How do I arrange cremation?

Just call us on the phone.

We would usually do it all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conferencing with you and, if required, we will consider visiting you at home. We can’t do this for everyone but if you have trouble leaving your house, we can consider coming over. But you can first get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.

Our transparency and integrity

Our compassionate and responsible approach to planning a burial or cremation is handled practised by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, all hoping to help you with a plan that fits your wishes perfectly. Sussex Funeral Services is very proud to offer a transparent pricing system to follow our codes of conduct on an ethical and moral basis. We know that this transparency is extremely imperative, giving us a distinct alternative from some other funeral companies. Sussex Funeral Services is one of the few Brighton Funeral Directors who, in the interests of integrity and transparency, want you to know about our funeral service options. Our direct funeral options in burial and cremation are simple and dignified, giving you and your family a more appropriate and affordable option.

Knowing how huge an upheaval losing a loved one can be, we are committed to offering you the most suitable funeral for your situation. Our team are trained, compassionate and understand how tough planning a funeral can be for a family or an individual. Our emphasis is based on fairness and integrity, and those who undergo loss are all too often ignorant of the inexpensive and dignified direct funeral services that exist to help alleviate the monetary consequences during this painful and emotionally stressful period.

  • Sussex Funeral Services also can provide a completely personalised burial or cremation service.
  • Help and support every step of the way.

Testimonials

Comments from our clients are of tremendous value to us.

We want to share these with you.

“Our very beloved family friend passed away in Hove on February 21. We went on the website to look for a respectable funeral director in Hove since we reside in the north of England. We chose Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip.

By the time we arrived in Hove, all the preparations for the burial had been done to our satisfaction, and all other support we wanted was of a very high quality. On a really sad day, you assisted us, allowing us time to consider and remember a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and integrity. – K. Sherlock.
