Henley Cheap Funeral Directors

In Henley, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you in making the appropriate funeral arrangements for your loved one’s death. We have a range of choices, ranging from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no frills’ choices that will hopefully be right for you.

Our ‘No-Fuss’ option and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial are totally different from the conventional funeral method. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.

We Provide Direct Cremation & Burial Services

Direct Cremation

Direct cremation not just a simple event, but it can also be private and easy on the finances. That is more affordable for many people. We still maintain the highest of standards, we still ensure that dignity for your loved one is upheld, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company ethos is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’

What is Direct Cremation?

Our ‘direct cremation’ option will be more favourable to those who worry about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.

Our sensitive staff will gladly help you throughout, while preserving dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means that we will pick up your beloved from wherever they died and get them back to our premises to keep them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation then takes place on that day with the cremated remains usually being ready for you to collect by the next working day.

Who is a direct cremation suited to?

Such a modest departure is appropriate to those who have elected to be cremated without service, by their own choice and either recorded in will or dying wishes, or who may have communicated it orally to their loved ones, perhaps after the donation of their body organs. For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. It could be that the deceased had no relatives or friends who had survived them or be able to attend due to distance and, in this situation, a conventional service may be unsuitable if a direct cremation would seem more suitable.

How Much Does a Direct Cremation cost and what does it include?

From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:

  • Collection of the body from a location within 10 miles (extra charges will be incurred for out of hours).
  • Conveying to a crematorium of our preference in our suitable vehicle.
  • A coffin appropriate for cremation shall be given.

Is there a burial alternative?

Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, the dead is taken to a graveyard and buried, without a service, rather than being taken to the crematorium.

How much is the Direct Burial?

Burial option from Price £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option includes the following:

  • Collection within 10 miles (extra hours would be charged).
  • Collection to our Brighton & Hove Cemetery in Hearsette.
  • Burial-fitting coffin.

What about dressing our loved one or viewings?

The concept of direct cremation or burial was with little to no hassle with all sides, with the intention of keeping things to a minimum and, in particular, of keeping costs to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.

In this case, we can provide personal care of your loved one for an additional fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we tend not to preserve by embalming or use unnecessarily intrusive therapies unless we are required by law or formal request).

What happens after the cremation?

Getting back to the idea of little or No Fuss for both parties, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we usually ask for clients to collect the ashes themselves from the crematorium. Alternatively, they might choose to scatter ashes in the crematorium remembrance garden. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. A variety of options are available when it comes to urns.

We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.

How do I arrange cremation?

Just give us a call.

Usually, we would do that all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conference with you, and if necessary, we might discuss meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t do this for everyone but we can consider it if you have difficulties getting out and about your own home. But you can call us on the phone to talk about your requirements first.

Testimonials

Comments from our clients are of tremendous value to us.

We’d like to share a few with you.

“Our very beloved family friend passed away in Hove on February 21. As we live in the north of England, we went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove. We selected Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.

By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. On a really sad day you supported us, allowing us the chance to recognise and support a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and dignity. — K. Sherlock.
