Halecommon Cheap Funeral Directors

In Halecommon, Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the funeral plans following the death of a loved one. We have a variety of options from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options that will hopefully fit your needs.

Our plans for ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or ‘ Burial’ vary greatly from conventional funeral choices. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.

We Provide Direct Cremation & Burial Services

Direct Cremation

Direct cremation is not just a simple ceremony but it can also be private and worry-free financially. It’s more affordable for many people. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company ethos is described as Caring, Compassion and Choice’

What is Direct Cremation?

The choice of ‘direct cremation’ will benefit those who may be worrying about affordability or want a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.

Our sensitive staff will gladly support you, while upholding dignity and discretion, throughout. The direct cremation means a simple service that involves us collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day of their cremation. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation takes place on that day and the cremated remains are usually available to be collected on the next working day.

Who is a direct cremation suited to?

Such a humble send-off is suitable for those who have chosen to be cremated without a service, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have verbally relayed it to their loved ones, perhaps following, for example, donation of their body organs. For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person didn’t have any family or friends having outlived them, or able to attend due to distance and, in that case, it seems inappropriate to have a traditional service, when a direct cremation might seem more fitting.

How Much Does a Direct Cremation cost and what does it include?

Costs are from £799, plus disbursements which includes cremation fee plus Doctor’s fee where applicable – this option comes with the following:

  • Removal of the body from a venue within 10 miles (extra fees would be paid for out of hours).
  • Conveying in our chosen car to the crematorium of our choice.
  • Coffin ideal for cremation will be made available.

Is there a burial alternative?

Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. The deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a ceremony, rather than being taken to the crematorium.

How much is the Direct Burial?

Burial option price starts at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:

  • 10-mile pick (extra charge will be charged for out of hours).
  • Collection to our Brighton & Hove Cemetery in Hearsette.
  • Burial-fitting coffin.

What about dressing our loved one or viewings?

The principle of direct cremation or burial is for little to no hassle to all parties, with a view to keeping issues to a minimum and, in particular, to keeping costs to a minimum. We find that very few people actually want to go through any viewing of the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 might wish to come and see their loved one.

In that situation, we can provide personal care for your loved one for an extra fee, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in their own clothing or in sheets of calico cotton (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive procedures unless we are requested to do so by law or formal request).

What happens after the cremation?

Returning to the idea of little or no fuss for both sides, and again, to keep things to a minimum, including expenditures, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium themselves. Or they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the crematorium remembrance garden. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. There are several options available for urns.

We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.

How do I arrange cremation?

Simply ring us.

We can normally do it all over the phone, followed up by email – we can video conference with you and if necessary, we could consider visiting you locally, in your own home. We can’t do this for everyone but if you have trouble leaving your house, we can consider coming over. But start by calling us to discuss your requirements.

“Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. As we live in the north of England, we went online to look for a credible funeral director in Hove. We chose Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.

By the time we arrived in Hove, all the burial plans had been rendered to our satisfaction and all other support we wanted was catered to a very high level. You helped us in a very sad day, giving us the time to remember and honour a loved one -you treated our Mum with such respect and dignity”. – K. Sherlock.
