Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the appropriate funeral arrangements in Groombridge, when it comes to the death of a loved one. We have a range of choices, ranging from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no frills’ choices that will hopefully be right for you.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ Funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial’ options differ from the traditional funeral option in a significant way. These easy alternatives give you the chance to have a remembrance or special ceremony at a future date.
Direct cremation is not just a simple ceremony but it can also be private and worry-free financially. It’s more affordable to a lot of people. We also uphold the highest standards; we continue to safeguard the dignity of your loved and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company ethos is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our choice of “direct cremation” will help you if you want a more limited, private funeral arrangement or indeed if you worry about affordability.
Throughout , our sensitive staff will support you while upholding dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service that includes us taking your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day we simply convey them, in a suitable coffin, to the crematorium, of our choice, which is usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton. The cremation takes place on that day and the cremated remains are usually available to be collected on the next working day.
Such a humble send-off is suitable for those who have chosen to be cremated without a service, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have verbally relayed it to their loved ones, perhaps following, for example, donation of their body organs. It may be that for financial reasons a direct cremation is better suited, either the person who has died didn’t prepare financially for their own demise or indeed the person left to arrange is not in a position to be able to pay for a traditional service. It could be that the deceased had no relatives or friends who had survived them or be able to attend due to distance and, in this situation, a conventional service may be unsuitable if a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
Costs are from £799, plus disbursements which includes cremation fee plus Doctor’s fee where applicable – this option comes with the following:
Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, but instead of being taken to the crematorium, the body is taken to the graveyard and buried without a service.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
For all sides, the notion of immediate cremation or burial is to reduce fuss, avoid issues and, in particular, keeping costs to a minimum. We found out that not many people would really want to view the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 may wish to come and see their loved one.
In which case – For an extra fee we are able to provide personal care of your loved one, i.e. cleansing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheeting (we prefer not to embalm or use unnecessary invasive treatments unless we are obliged to do so by law or formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no fuss for both sides, and again, to keep things to a minimum, including expenditures, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium themselves. Or alternatively they might choose to have the ashes scattered in the garden of remembrance at the crematorium. There is an option to have the ashes delivered to your door for a further cost. There are several options available for urns.
We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.
Just give us a call.
Usually, we would do that all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conference with you, and if necessary, we might discuss meeting you personally, in your own house. We can’t do this for everyone but we can consider it if you have difficulties getting out and about your own home. But you can call us on the phone to talk about your requirements first.
Our caring and responsible approach to the organisation of funerals or cremations is handled directly by our funeral director, Philip, and his wife Sallie, who all aim to support you in your time of need with a package that fits your wishes. Sussex Funeral Services is very proud to offer a transparent pricing system to follow our codes of conduct on an ethical and moral basis. We’d like to share a few with you.
“Our very beloved family friend passed away in Hove on February 21. As we live in the north of England, we went online to look for a credible funeral director in Hove. Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. On a really sad day, you assisted us, allowing us time to consider and remember a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and integrity. – K. Sherlock.
