In Foul-Mile, Sussex Funeral Services can help you with necessary funeral arrangements when it comes to the loss of a loved one. We have a range of choices, ranging from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no frills’ choices that will hopefully be right for you.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ option and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial are totally different from the conventional funeral method. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.
Not only is direct cremation simple, but it is also be private and financially beneficial. This is more affordable for many people. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company’s philosophy is as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our choice of “direct cremation” will help you if you want a more limited, private funeral arrangement or indeed if you worry about affordability.
Throughout this time our we will be there for you to help you, while maintaining dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until their cremation day. On that day, we simply transfer them to the crematorium of our choice, usually Woodvale Crematorium, in Brighton, in a suitable coffin. The cremation takes place on that day and the cremated remains are usually available to be collected on the next working day.
Such a simple goodbye is appropriate for those who have opted to be cremated without a service, by their own preference and either recorded in a will or dying wishes, or they may have orally expressed it to their loved ones, maybe after, for example, donation of their body organs. For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no family or friends who have survived them or be able to attend due to distance, and in that case, it may be unfitting to have a regular service when a direct cremation might seem more appropriate.
From £799 including disbursements (Cremation Fee plus Doctor Fee where applicable) – this selection includes the following:
Sure, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ is also called the Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service, the dead is taken to a graveyard and buried, without a service, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial option price starts at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:
The principle of direct cremation or burial is for little to no hassle to all parties, with a view to keeping issues to a minimum and, in particular, to keeping costs to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.
In which case – For an extra fee we are able to provide personal care of your loved one, i.e. cleansing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheeting (we prefer not to embalm or use unnecessary invasive treatments unless we are obliged to do so by law or formal request).
Getting back to the idea of little or No Fuss for both parties, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we usually ask for clients to collect the ashes themselves from the crematorium. Or, instead, they may choose to have the ashes spread in the remembrance garden in the crematorium. There is an option to have the ashes delivered to your door for a further cost. When it comes to urns, there are many options available.
We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of urns available, and with our own individual tastes, we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all this in your time from the comfort of your own home.
Simply ring us.
We can normally do it all over the phone, followed up by email – we can video conference with you and if necessary, we could consider visiting you locally, in your own home. We can’t afford this for everybody, but if you have problems getting out and about your house, we will consider it. But start by calling us to discuss your requirements.

“Our very close family member died in Hove on 21 February. We went on the website to look for a respectable funeral director in Hove since we reside in the north of England. Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. You supported us on a really sad day, allowing us the chance to recognise and appreciate a loved one, you handled our mother with such respect and dignity. – K. Sherlock.
