Sussex Funeral Services in Ford can help you with the necessary funeral arrangements after losing a loved one. We have a variety of options from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options that will hopefully fit your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ option and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial are totally different from the conventional funeral method. These simple alternatives give you the option of having a memorial or special ceremony at a later time.
Direct cremation is not just a simple ceremony but it can also be private and worry-free financially. It’s more affordable to a lot of people. We continue to maintain the highest standards, we continue to ensure that dignity is upheld for your loved one, and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner possible. Our company’s philosophy is as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’
Our choice of “direct cremation” will help you if you want a more limited, private funeral arrangement or indeed if you worry about affordability.
Throughout this time our we will be there for you to help you, while maintaining dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means a simple service which involves collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing them back to our premises and keeping them safe until their cremation day. On the day, in a suitable coffin, we will simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, usually the Woodvale Crematorium in Brighton. The cremation then happens on that day, and the cremation remains usually ready for collection on the next working day.
Such a simple farewell is suited to those who have opted to be cremated without a service, themselves, through their own choice and either documented in a will or dying wishes, or they may have relayed it verbally to their loved ones, maybe following donation of their body organs for example. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no relatives or friends who have survived them, or be able to attend due to distance and in this case, it seems inappropriate to provide a conventional service when a direct cremation would seem more suitable.
From £799 including disbursements (Cremation Fee plus Doctor Fee where applicable) – this selection includes the following:
Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.
Burial option starting from Price £1,000 in addition to disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – this service involves the following:
The idea of the direct cremation or burial was for little or No Fuss for both parties, with a view to keeping things to a minimum and in particular to keep costs to a minimum. We found out that not many people would really want to view the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 may wish to come and see their loved one.
In such a case and for an additional cost, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. cleaning and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we do not carry out embalming or use unnecessarily invasive solutions unless we are obligated to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Getting back to the idea of little or No Fuss for both parties, and again, with a view to keeping things to a minimum, including costs, we usually ask for clients to collect the ashes themselves from the crematorium. Alternatively, they might choose to scatter ashes in the crematorium remembrance garden. There is an opportunity, for a small additional cost, to have the ashes shipped to your house. When it comes to urns, there are many options available.
We generally tell clients to look on the internet for urns given the wide range of choices available, and we feel that choosing an urn is a more personal thing to do, based on individual tastes, and since there is usually no rush to do so, you can do all of this from the comfort of your own home in your time.
Just call us on the phone.
We would usually do it all over the phone, followed by email – we can also do a video conferencing with you and, if required, we will consider visiting you at home. We can’t do this for everyone but we can consider it if you have difficulties getting out and about your own home. But you can call us on the phone to talk about your requirements first.

“Our good family friend passed away in Hove on 21 February. We went on the website to look for a respectable funeral director in Hove since we reside in the north of England. Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip was our pick.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the funeral arrangements had been made to our satisfaction, and any other assistance that we needed was catered to a very high standard. On a very sad day you helped us, giving us time to remember and honour a loved one, you treated our mother with such esteem and respect. – K. Sherlock.
