Five-Ashes Cheap Funeral Directors

Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the appropriate funeral arrangements in Five-Ashes, when it comes to the death of a loved one. We have a variety of options from our traditional funerals to the simplest, ‘no fuss’ options that will hopefully fit your needs.

Our ‘No-Fuss’ funerals and ‘Direct cremation’ or Burial’ options differ significantly from the regular funeral option. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.

We Provide Direct Cremation & Burial Services

Direct Cremation

Not only is direct cremation a simple opportunity but it is also private and worry-free. It’s more affordable to a lot of people. We also uphold the highest standards; we continue to safeguard the dignity of your loved and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. Our company philosophy is defined as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice’

What is Direct Cremation?

Our ‘direct cremation’ option can help those who may need to think about affordability or wish to have a smaller and more private funeral arrangement.

Our compassionate staff will always support you with dignity and discretion. The direct cremation means a simple service that involves us collecting your loved one from wherever they died, bringing back to our premises and keeping them safe until the day of their cremation. On the day, in a suitable coffin, we will simply move them to the crematorium of our choosing, usually the Woodvale Crematorium in Brighton. The cremation then takes place on that day, with the remains being cremated and usually ready to collect by the next working day.

Who is a direct cremation suited to?

Such a simple goodbye is appropriate for those who have opted to be cremated without a service, by their own preference and either recorded in a will or dying wishes, or they may have orally expressed it to their loved ones, maybe after, for example, donation of their body organs. It may be that a direct cremation is best suited for financial purposes, either the person who died did not prepare financially for their own death or perhaps the person left to manage is not in a position to be able to pay for a conventional service. The deceased person may have had no relatives or friends who have survived them, or be able to attend due to distance and in this case, it seems inappropriate to provide a conventional service when a direct cremation would seem more suitable.

How Much Does a Direct Cremation cost and what does it include?

From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:

  • Collection of the body from a location within 10 miles (extra charges will be incurred for out of hours).
  • Conveying to the crematorium of our choosing in our own car.
  • Coffin ideal for cremation will be made available.

Is there a burial alternative?

Yes, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ – also known as a ‘Direct to Graveside’ service. A similar service but rather than being taken to the crematorium, the deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a service.

How much is the Direct Burial?

Burial option price starts at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:

  • Collection within 10 miles (extra hour costs apply).
  • Collection to our Brighton & Hove Cemetery in Hearsette.
  • A coffin for burial.

What about dressing our loved one or viewings?

The principle of direct cremation or burial is for little to no hassle to all parties, with a view to keeping issues to a minimum and, in particular, to keeping costs to a minimum. We find that very few people actually want to go through any viewing of the deceased. Maybe 1 in 10 might wish to come and see their loved one.

In this case, for an additional charge, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive treatments unless we are required to do so by legislation or by formal request).

What happens after the cremation?

Returning to the idea of little or no fuss for both sides, and again, to keep things to a minimum, including expenditures, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium themselves. Or, instead, they may choose to have the ashes spread in the remembrance garden in the crematorium. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. When it comes to urns, there are many options available.

We usually advise clients to look on the internet, given the choice of available urns, and we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, given individual tastes, and since there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your own convenience from the comfort of your home.

How do I arrange cremation?

Just call us on the phone.

We can normally do it all over the phone, followed up by email – we can video conference with you and if necessary, we could consider visiting you locally, in your own home. We can’t do this for everyone but we can consider it if you have difficulties getting out and about your own home. But you can call us first let’s talk about your requirements.

Testimonials

The comments our customers make are of great importance to us.

We’d like to share them with you.

“Our very beloved family friend passed away in Hove on February 21. As we live in the north of England, we went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove. We chose Phillip of Sussex Funeral Services.

By the time we arrived in Hove, all the funeral arrangements had been made to our satisfaction, and any other assistance that we needed was catered to a very high standard. On a really sad day you supported us, allowing us the chance to recognise and support a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and dignity. — K. Sherlock.
