Sussex Funeral Services will assist you with the appropriate funeral arrangements in Fittleworth, when it comes to the death of a loved one. We have a range of choices, from our traditional funerals to the easiest, ‘no fuss’ choices that will hopefully meet your needs.
Our ‘No-Fuss’ Funerals and ‘Direct Cremation’ or Burial’ options differ from the traditional funeral option in a significant way. These simple options give you the choice of later holding a memorial or a special ceremony.
Direct cremation not just a simple event, but it can also be private and easy on the finances. That is more affordable for many people. We also uphold the highest standards; we continue to safeguard the dignity of your loved and that we conduct ourselves in the most respectful manner. The ethos of our company is described as ‘Caring, Compassion and Choice.’
Our choice of “direct cremation” will help you if you want a more limited, private funeral arrangement or indeed if you worry about affordability.
Throughout this time our we will be there for you to help you, while maintaining dignity and discretion. Direct cremation means that we will pick up your beloved from wherever they died and get them back to our premises to keep them safe until the day they are cremated. On that day, we simply transport them, in a fitting coffin, to the crematorium of our choosing, which is typically Woodvale Crematorium. The cremation then happens on that day, and the cremation remains usually ready for collection on the next working day.
This simple farewell is appropriate for those who want, of their own choice and either are recorded in a will or dying wishes, to be cremated without a service, or have verbally passed it on to their loved ones, perhaps after donating their body organ for example. For finance purposes, it may be that a direct cremation is best suited, because either the person who died did not plan himself financially or the person left to manage is not capable of paying for a conventional service. It may be that the deceased person did not have any relatives or friends who outlived them , or be able to attend due to distance in this case, it will be inappropriate to provide a conventional service when direct cremation would seem more fitting.
From £799, in addition to disbursements (Cremation cost plus Doctor’s cost where appropriate) – this choice includes the following:
Sure, there is – our ‘Direct Burial’ is also called the Direct to Graveside’ service. The deceased is taken to a cemetery and buried, without a ceremony, rather than being taken to the crematorium.
Burial option price starts at £1,000 plus disbursements (burial plot and interment fee) – This option comes with the following:
For all parties, the idea of immediate cremation or burial was for little to No Fuss, with a view to reducing issues and in particular bringing costs down to a minimum. We discover that very few people really want to view. Perhaps 1 in 10 would like to come to view their loved one.
In this case, for an additional charge, we are in a position to give personal care to your loved one, i.e. washing and dressing the body either in own clothes or in calico cotton sheets (we tend not to embalm or use unnecessarily intrusive treatments unless we are required to do so by legislation or by formal request).
Returning to the idea of little or no hassle for both sides, and again, in order to keep things to a minimum, including prices, we usually ask clients to collect the ashes from the crematorium on their own. Or, instead, they may choose to have the ashes spread in the remembrance garden in the crematorium. The ashes can be delivered to your door for an extra fee. There is a variety of options open when it comes to urns.
We normally encourage clients to search on the internet, considering the range of available urns, and with our own particular preferences, we feel that picking an urn is a more personal thing to do, and as there is generally no rush to do so, you can do all this at your convenient time, from the comfort of your own home.
Simply ring us.
We can normally do it all over the phone, followed up by email – we can video conference with you and if necessary, we could consider visiting you locally, in your own home. We can’t afford this for everybody, but if you have problems getting out and about your house, we will consider it. But start by calling us to discuss your requirements.

“Our dear family friend died in Hove on the 21st of February. We went on the website to search for a reputable funeral director in Hove as we live in the north of England. We chose Sussex Funeral Services’ Phillip.
By the time we arrived in Hove, all the arrangements for the funeral had been made to our satisfaction, and any other help we needed was catered for to a very high standard. On a really sad day, you assisted us, allowing us time to consider and remember a loved one, you handled our mother with great reverence and integrity. – K. Sherlock.
